Ligament Sprains
Ligament sprains occur when the ligament is stretched beyond its capacity. Often, an accident that happens fast like rolling your ankle or a dislocation can cause sprains to the ligament.
Signs and Symptoms
Ligament sprains can be diagnosed by looking at the mechanism of injury, the area of pain, and by doing specific tests. Symptoms include:
- Swelling local to the area
- Some bruising might be present depending on the grade of the sprain
- Pain in the area
- Difficulties moving the joint or weight-bearing
- Weakness in the area
- Might have heard a ‘pop’ in the area
