Trexo Sessions with Kids Physio Group

KPG's Trexo Sessions

Kids Physio Group and Trexo Robotics are on a mission to help children with disabilities reach their physical goals - in a FUN and exciting way! Many of our KPG clinics across the country either have a Trexo device or are participating in an upcoming roadshow so that we can deliver this incredible service to families.

What is the Trexo?

The Trexo is a robotic exoskeleton designed to help children with disabilities experience the benefits of walking. The robotic legs guide the child, providing a consistent gait pattern until the child can override it. This process builds muscle memory that leads to a proper gait pattern, enhancing strength and endurance. This process also allows the child to feel independent and remain comfortable.

The Trexo has many modes to ensure the child’s comfort and speed so that they are working on what is most appropriate for them. The Trexo also includes a tablet that automatically delivers new updates and features! These modes include:

  • Strength mode
  • Endurance mode
  • Safe range of motion to prevent injury
  • Customizable gait pattern
  • Gait Pattern for Extensor Tone
  • Backwards Walking Range of walking speeds
  • Flexible weight bearing
  • Spasticity control to prevent injury
  • Adjustable support force to provide the exact amount of help
  • Stander Mode

Who Does it Benefit?

The Trexo device can be used by children with a wide range of disabilities. Whether it’s to build endurance or if they have to work on rolling or standing, the Trexo exoskeleton allows them to build that endurance to do so. We understand that every child is different and that each child may benefit differently from the Trexo, which is why it comes with many modes and sizes. The Trexo largely benefits children with:

  • Cerebral Palsy
  • Pediatric Stroke
  • Spinal Cord Injury
  • Neuromuscular Conditions (e.g: Multiple Sclerosis & Muscular Dystrophy)
  • Gait Disorders & Mobility Challenges
  • Rett Syndrome
  • Parkinson’s disease
  • and more!

KPG's Trexo Sessions

If your child already has a physiotherapist at a KPG clinic with a Trexo device, talk to your physiotherapist to learn more! If not, you can book a free trial by contacting the clinic in your area, provided they have the device.

During a physiotherapist-supervised Trexo session, the physiotherapist and the PTSW/Trexo coordinator collaborate to finalize measurements and make any necessary adjustments to the Trexo device. The PTSW/Trexo coordinator then leads the movement portion of the session, typically for 45 minutes, guiding the Trexo user, as they walk around the treatment space and providing real-time Trexo statistics.

Currently, the following clinic(s) offer Trexo as a session:

When we collaborate, Trexo attends the clinic for a full day, allowing children to conduct free trials. It also allows families to get to know their local Kids Physio clinic and how we support pediatric physiotherapy needs in our community!

The best way to know where the Trexo device is going next is by following their social media account: @trexorobotics. You can also follow the Kids Physio Group clinic in your area on social media for announcements and roadshow dates!

If you think your child could benefit from the Trexo, you can visit the location page of the clinic closest to you that offers that service. From there, click the “book now” button to be redirected to the booking page, where you can book a session with the Trexo.

Yes! Our physiotherapy assessments and treatments are separate sessions from our Trexo robotics sessions, as you’ll notice on our booking page. If you are interested in both a physiotherapy assessment and using the Trexo, we encourage you to speak with your child’s physiotherapist about it!

The best option is to check with your insurance provider directly. In our experience, AHP and AFU will cover the session partially or totally, but getting confirmation directly from the source is always the best move.

A physiotherapy support worker, or a physiotherapy assistant is someone who can provide physical therapy services under the supervision of a physiotherapist, regardless of their official title. They perform services to clients at the clinic following practice standards and advisory statements that are consistent with the physio’s training and expertise.
